Nepal has sought greater Chinese investment and expanded trade cooperation as Kathmandu and Beijing discussed ways to strengthen economic ties including border infrastructure, export promotion and industrial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issues were discussed during a meeting between Nepal\u2019s Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav and Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong, who is visiting Nepal with a high-level delegation at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Yadav said Nepal wanted to make its long-standing relations with China more effective and results-oriented in the economic and trade sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She highlighted the need to expand cooperation in trade, investment, industrial development, infrastructure construction, cross-border connectivity and supply chain strengthening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yadav also informed the Chinese delegation about Nepal\u2019s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment through legal and policy reforms. She expressed hope that Chinese investment in Nepal\u2019s productive sectors would increase further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chinese delegation said Beijing was committed to further strengthening Nepal-China economic relations and continuing regular dialogue through existing government mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Nepal\u2019s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Vice Minister Yan said China was willing to support trade infrastructure development and reconstruction at the Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi border points. He also said China would facilitate Nepal\u2019s participation in Chinese trade fairs and exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nepal\u2019s export potential was also discussed during the meeting, with Yan suggesting that both countries could conduct joint studies on products including tea, herbs and other exportable goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sharing China\u2019s economic reform experience, Yan referred to policies adopted after 1978 including measures related to foreign investment promotion, business environment improvement and administrative facilitation. He suggested that Nepal could adopt an integrated approach for trade and economic reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chinese vice minister also highlighted China\u2019s role as one of Nepal\u2019s major sources of foreign direct investment and said improving services for investors through a one-stop system could help attract more Chinese businesses to Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest and further strengthen economic partnership between the two countries, the ministry said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
