{"id":2921,"date":"2020-10-11T19:42:42","date_gmt":"2020-10-11T13:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=2921"},"modified":"2020-10-11T19:42:42","modified_gmt":"2020-10-11T13:57:42","slug":"specialists-should-take-lead-for-covid-19-prevention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=2921","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Specialists should take lead for COVID-19 prevention&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>KATHMANDU :<\/strong> Disaster management specialists have underscored the need for the disaster management specialists to take the lead towards prevention and control of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at the &#8216;Preparedness and Mitigation Measures for Pandemic and Natural Disasters Risk Reduction\u2019 session of the second edition of the World Knowledge Convention organized by the Non-Resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) on Saturday, former Minister for Education Dr Gangalal Tuladhar said that the government was \u2018hopeless\u2019 and there was clearly lack of efforts on the part of government for the preparedness and mitigation of the deadly infection which has already claimed the lives of a total of 600 people in Nepal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Although the three-tier of government had concurrent rights regarding disaster management, the pandemic continues to rise for lack of proper and effective coordination,&#8221; Tuladhar commented. The number of COVID-19 cases surpassed the 100 thousand mark in the country recently.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He viewed that the current situation of COVID-19 in the country owed largely to the formation of Crisis Management Center (CMC) formed to respond to COVID-19 overlooking the structure envisaged by the country\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly, former Minister for Health and Population Gagan Kumar Thapa expressed his concern over the growing cases of COVID-19 in the country, including in the Kathmandu Valley. He particularly expressed concern over the lack of ICUs for those in critical conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Likewise, former secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Sudha Sharma blamed said that COVID-19 has not come under control due to the political leadership taking the lead over disaster management specialists who should be entrusted with the responsibilities to respond to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She asserted, \u201cThere were no substantial efforts made by the government in the first two months of lockdown and the first two months after the lockdown to prevent and control COVID-19 was lifted.\u201d Also virtually speaking in the event, NRNA\u2019s Dr Badri KC shared that NRNA had always been extending its support during the crisis in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU : Disaster management specialists have underscored the need for the disaster management specialists to take the lead towards prevention and control of COVID-19.
