Kathmandu [Nepal], July 16 –<\/strong> Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav held talks with US Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires Scott Urbom on Thursday focusing on bilateral trade, investment promotion and broader economic cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting at the ministry, Yadav highlighted the long-standing relationship between Nepal and the United States noting that Washington has supported Nepal’s health, education and economic development efforts since diplomatic relations were established in 1947.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister also acknowledged the contribution of the Nepali diaspora in the US in strengthening people to people ties between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key issue discussed was the expiration of the Nepal Trade Preference Program in December 2025. Yadav expressed hope for US support in ensuring continued preferential access for Nepali products in the American market a move seen as important for Nepal’s export sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also stressed the need to revitalize dialogue under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) mechanism to promote greater bilateral trade and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting recent policy and legal reforms Yadav said Nepal is working to strengthen its investment friendly environment and is keen to attract additional US investment in sectors such as hydropower and renewable energy, tourism infrastructure, agro-processing, manufacturing and the digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States is currently Nepal’s second largest export destination with products including woolen carpets, ready-made garments and pashmina reaching American consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the ministry, Urbom responded positively to Nepal’s requests regarding trade preferences investment promotion and economic dialogue reaffirming continued US support and partnership in areas of mutual interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
