Kathmandu [Nepal], July 16 –<\/strong> Nepal’s Transport Management Office issued 90,000 driving licences over the past three months generating Rs 198.2 million in government revenue as authorities accelerated the distribution of previously printed licence cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Office chief Prabin Shrestha said 2,38,000 driving licences were printed during the three-month period of which 90,000 had been handed over to applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office is currently issuing between 1,000 and 1,800 licences each day reflecting efforts to clear pending applications and improve service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The licence printing programme is being carried out under agreements between the Department of Transport Management and the Security Printing Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the first agreement, the authorities were required to print 1.2 million driving licences by April 25, 2026 (Baisakh 12, 2083). Officials said the target has been fully achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second agreement required an additional 1.7 million licences to be printed by the end of Asar 2083. However, the Security Printing Centre has exceeded that target completing the printing of 2,592,417 licence cards according to the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The higher than targeted production is expected to help reduce the backlog of applicants waiting to receive their licences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driving licence issuance has been a longstanding administrative challenge in Nepal with delays caused by shortages of printed cards and processing constraints. Officials say the increased printing capacity and ongoing distribution are intended to improve public service delivery and ensure applicants receive their licences more quickly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
