Kathmandu [Nepal], July 23 – Industrialists and traders in Biratnagar say the new direct cargo rail service from Kolkata to the Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Biratnagar will reduce transportation costs and speed up the movement of imported goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Business representatives said transporting raw materials and other imports by rail instead of road could cut logistics costs by 35 to 40 percent, particularly for goods arriving from India and third countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President of the Morang Trade Association Anupam Rathi, said the Electronic Cargo Tracking System installed in all containers would improve cargo security by allowing shipments and trains to be monitored through mobile phones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rathi said the rail service is also expected to reduce delays and additional charges at ports, benefiting Nepali industries and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Industry representatives said continued operation of the service would make exports from Nepal to India and third countries faster and more affordable while improving the competitiveness of Nepali products in international markets. They added that opening a cargo rail office and providing containers in Biratnagar would further strengthen trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vice President of the association Anil Kumar Sah and General Secretary Sanjay Kumar Shrestha said the cargo rail service would encourage future investment in industry and trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
