Washington [US], July 26 –<\/strong> With 100 days remaining until the US midterm elections on November 3, President Donald Trump’s Republican party is facing an increasingly difficult battle to retain control of the House of Representatives while defending its Senate majority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Trump is not on the ballot the election is widely viewed as a referendum on his administration and could shape the remainder of his presidency. If Democrats win the House they would gain control of key congressional committees with the authority to launch investigations into the administration and could even pursue a third impeachment effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forecasts by election analysis website Decision Desk HQ currently give Democrats a 59 percent chance of winning the House, projecting a possible 224-211 majority. Republicans enter the campaign with a narrow house majority declining presidential approval ratings, persistent inflation, rising borrowing costs and voter dissatisfaction over the war with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higher gasoline prices which have climbed above $4 per gallon, along with elevated living costs have remained key concerns for voters. Democrats argue that public confidence in their party has strengthened on issues including inflation, healthcare and immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Senate Republicans hold a 53-47 advantage. Democrats would need a net gain of four seats to take control although Decision Desk HQ projects Republicans could retain the chamber even in a 50-50 split through Vice President JD Vance’s tie-breaking vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political analyst Chuck Todd said Republicans have shifted from being “clearly ahead” in Senate prospects several months ago to holding only a narrow advantage while democrats could gain between 10 and 25 House seats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
