Kathmandu [Nepal], July 27 –<\/strong> A doctor critically injured in an assault at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj has been transferred to Kathmandu for specialist treatment, as Nepal’s health authorities pledged legal action against those responsible and condemned violence against medical workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Pramod Ram, a medical officer at Narayani Hospital, was admitted to the National Trauma Centre after being seriously injured in an attack allegedly carried out by relatives of a patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health and Food Safety Minister Nisha Mehta visited Dr Ram on Monday and directed doctors and hospital officials to provide the highest level of medical care. The ministry said all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure specialist treatment and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting his recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry also condemned the assault and vandalism at Narayani Hospital, stating that violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable. It reminded the public that any disputes arising during medical treatment must be addressed through legal procedures rather than acts of violence. Authorities were urged to identify those involved in the attack and prosecute them in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred after Raj Kumar Patel, 45, of Birgunj Metropolitan City-25, died while undergoing treatment on Saturday. His relatives accused doctors of medical negligence before attacking Dr Ram and damaging hospital property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctors and other health professionals staged a protest in Birgunj on Monday, demanding justice, stronger workplace security and action against the attackers. The hospital has formed an investigation committee into the incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
