Kathmandu [Nepal], August 4 –<\/strong> Security has been significantly tightened along the Nepal\u2013India border in Banke district following recent communal unrest in Sunsari, Siraha and other parts of Nepal with authorities from both countries stepping up surveillance to prevent further tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nepalese and Indian security agencies have launched joint border patrols and increased monitoring along the frontier to deter activities that could threaten peace and communal harmony. The coordinated patrols involve personnel from Nepal police, Armed Police Force (APF), India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Indian police supported by trained sniffer dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harendra Kumar Mishra, station police officer at India’s Rupaidiha police station said the joint operations are intended to strengthen border security and maintain law and order. Banke Chief District Officer Dil Kumar Tamang said security coordination between the two countries has been intensified in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities on both sides have also made identity documents mandatory for border crossings. Security personnel are recording the names and addresses of travellers to strengthen surveillance while local civic representatives say the stricter measures have reduced unnecessary cross-border movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, authorities in Dhanusha lifted a prohibitory order on Monday after protesters withdrew demonstrations and the security situation improved. The restrictions had followed tensions linked to communal unrest that spread from Sunsari into parts of Madhesh province.
