{"id":3432,"date":"2020-11-03T13:25:52","date_gmt":"2020-11-03T07:40:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=3432"},"modified":"2020-11-03T13:25:52","modified_gmt":"2020-11-03T07:40:52","slug":"govt-seeks-judicial-review-to-reverse-supreme-courts-verdict-to-make-pcr-testcovid-19-treatment-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=3432","title":{"rendered":"Govt seeks judicial review to reverse Supreme Court\u2019s verdict to make PCR test,Covid-19 treatment free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>KATHMANDU &#8211;<\/strong> The government has sought a judicial review of the recent Supreme Court\u2019s verdict to provide PCR tests free of cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Laxman Aryal, Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, filed a petition at the Supreme Court via the Office of Attorney General for a judicial review of last month\u2019s verdict for the government to conduct PCR tests and provide treatment to Covid-19 patients free of cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In response to a writ petition filed by advocates Keshar Bahadur KC and Lokendra Oli, the Supreme Court had ordered the government to provide PCR tests and treatment services free of cost on October 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the government decided to move to the Supreme Court to overturn the verdict. In its petition to seek judicial review, the Health Ministry argued that the decision to charge money for PCR tests was based on the country\u2019s economic situation and assessment of its capacity to bear the costs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ministry also stated that the verdict contradicts the court\u2019s previous orders, legal and constitutional provisions of the country.
