KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is holding its standing committee meeting today.<\/p>\n
The standing committee meeting will be held at 1 pm at the Prime Minister\u2019s residence Baluwatar, according to NCP spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.<\/p>\n
The standing committee meeting is expected to see a heated discussion on the recent ordinance to amend the act related to the Constitutional Council introduced by the government.<\/p>\n
According to a party source, the standing committee meeting will discuss the ordinance suddenly issued by the government without any consultations in the party.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Tuesday, the government had issued the ordinance making it easier to hold the meeting of the Constitutional Council even if available majority members are present in the meeting of the six-member council.<\/p>\n
The decision of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to introduce the ordinance has not only further irked the rival faction in the party led by Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal \u2018Prachanda\u2019 and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, but also worsened the intra-party disputes.<\/p>\n
The rival faction is preparing to criticize the move and demand an immediate repeal of the ordinance that Prime Minister Oli unilaterally decided to introduce.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government should immediately withdraw the controversial ordinance brought in an authoritarian way. We will strongly raise this issue in today\u2019s meeting. The meeting will take a decision to instruct the government to repeal the ordinance,\u201d said a standing committee member.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Tuesday evening, five secretariat members opposing the ordinance gathered at Prachanda\u2019s residence Khumaltar to discuss the Prime Minister\u2019s move. Prachanda, Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bamdev Gautam and Shrestha agreed to put pressure on Oli to withdraw the ordinance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
