{"id":5100,"date":"2021-01-11T18:10:04","date_gmt":"2021-01-11T12:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5100"},"modified":"2021-01-11T20:51:31","modified_gmt":"2021-01-11T15:06:31","slug":"election-commission-turns-down-request-of-prachanda-nepal-faction-to-halt-election-preparation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5100","title":{"rendered":"Election Commission turns down request of Prachanda-Nepal faction to halt election preparation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">KATHMANDU:\u00a0 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Election Commission has declined a request of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) co chairs Pushpa Kamal Dahal \u2018Prachanda\u2019 and Madhav Kumar Nepal to halt the ongoing election process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier today, the NCP leaders duo had met the Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya at the Election Commission and urged him to stop all election related preparations until the Supreme Court settles the cases challenging the government\u2019s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and set dates for midterm election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Election Commission,however, told them that it cannot halt the election process citing that it needs a court order to do so, according to Lilamani Pokharel, a standing committee member of the NCP.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stating that it is a responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct election after the government announces the date of polls, he told the leaders duo that the election program can be stopped only if the court issues the verdict, said Pokharel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prachanda and Nepal had reached the Commission to submit the letter of updated details of the party. Earlier last week, the Election Commission had sought updated details of the party from both rival factions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli\u2019s decision to dissolve the House on December 5 has left the ruling NCP on the verge of a split.
