{"id":5581,"date":"2021-02-02T16:02:44","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T10:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5581"},"modified":"2021-02-02T16:02:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T10:17:44","slug":"writ-petition-filed-in-supreme-court-seeking-order-to-scrap-appointments-in-constitutional-bodies-halt-swearing-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5581","title":{"rendered":"Writ petition filed in Supreme Court seeking order to scrap appointments in constitutional bodies, halt swearing-in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>KATHMANDU &#8211;<\/strong> A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court seeking an order to stay the appointments in constitutional bodies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dinesh Tripathi, a senior advocate, registered the writ petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday demanding the apex court\u2019s intervention to scrap the appointments in various constitutional bodies and halt the swearing-in of appointees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He has made the Office of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Chairman of the Constitutional Council as defendants in the writ petition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier in December last year, the government had amended the Constitutional Council Act through an ordinance to allow the Council to convene its meeting if majority members are present.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After House Speaker Afni Prasad Sapkota and main opposition party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba boycotted the meeting, the Council meeting held of majority members held on December 15 decided to make recommendations for the appointments on various constitutional bodies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Citing that the Parliamentary Hearings Committee cannot conduct hearings of the nominees picked by the Constitutional Council after the dissolution of the House, House Speaker Sapkota had sent back the original copy of the letter sent by the government asking the House to convene the hearings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU &#8211; A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court seeking an order to stay the appointments in constitutional bodies.
