{"id":5669,"date":"2021-02-05T19:16:30","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T13:31:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5669"},"modified":"2021-02-05T19:16:30","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T13:31:30","slug":"house-speaker-sapkota-moves-to-supreme-court-against-appointments-in-constitutional-bodies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.kathmandupati.com\/?p=5669","title":{"rendered":"House Speaker Sapkota moves to Supreme Court against appointments in constitutional bodies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">KATHMANDU &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">House Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has filed a writ petition against the government\u2019s appointments in various constitutional bodies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arguing that the recent appointments were \u2018unconstitutional\u2019, House Speaker Sapkota registered the writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking the apex court\u2019s verdict to scrap such appointments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his writ petition, House Speaker Sapkota also demanded an interim order to stay all appointees to make any decision in their offices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Office of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Constitutional Council Chairman and its secretariat and Chief Justice Cholenda Shumsher JB Rana as a Constitutional Council member, among others, have been made defendants in the writ petition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Court also scheduled the hearing for the case for Sunday.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also claimed that all appointments made by the President upon the recommendation of the Constitutional Council following a decision on December 20 were both unconstitutional and illegal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier on Wednesday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had sworn in chiefs and officials of 11 constitutional bodies amid a ceremony held at Shital Niwas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU &#8211; House Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has filed a writ petition against the government\u2019s appointments in various constitutional bodies.\u00a0 Arguing that the recent appointments were \u2018unconstitutional\u2019, House Speaker Sapkota registered the writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking the apex court\u2019s verdict to scrap such appointments.
