Biden, Jr. has held his phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping since assuming this office..\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Issuing a statement, the White House said that President Biden spoke with his Chinese counterpart Xi on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the phone call, President Biden underscored his fundamental concerns about Beijing\u2019s \u201ccoercive and unfair economic practices, crackdown in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including toward Taiwan\u201d, the White House said in the statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The President shared his greetings and well wishes with the Chinese people on the occasion of Lunar New Year. President Biden affirmed his priorities of protecting the American people\u2019s security, prosperity, health, and way of life, and preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The two leaders also exchanged views on countering the COVID-19 pandemic, and the shared challenges of global health security, climate change, and preventing weapons proliferation, according to the statement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPresident Biden committed to pursuing practical, results-oriented engagements when it advances the interests of the American people and those of our allies,\u201d the statement added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KATHMANDU &#8211; US President Joseph R.
