Kathmandu: The Kanchanpur District Court has ruled that the Chief of Police should apologize to the police involved in the investigation of the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant. The court had adjudged on July 31 that the 8 policemen involved in the investigation of Nirmala Pant’s murder are innocent.<\/p>\n
The decision made states that the police chiefs should apologize to the police personnel involved in the investigation of Nirmala, as it has seriously affected their reputation. SarvendraKhanal, who was the police chief when Nirmala Pant was killed. According to the court’s decision, Khanal will have to apologize to the police involved in the investigation.<\/p>\n
The court also ruled that the person who accused a police officer based on lies and fabrications should apologize, similar to the way that former President Barack Obama had publicly apologized to a person who had spent 20 years in prison and then been acquitted by the court after being deemed innocent.<\/p>\n
After a high court had acquitted a convicted man who had been in prison for more than 20 years in the United States, former President Obama had publicly apologized on behalf of the State, saying that there had been severe errors in the investigation.<\/p>\n
Based on Former President Obama’s behavior, the court said, “Chief police officer who prosecuted their police personnel based on market rumors and unverified reports should be able to remember and emulate then US President Obama’s behaviors. Then only a public servant will be able to perform his duties with high morale and self-respect.”<\/p>\n
