KATHMANDU: The Chief District Officer of Lalitpur Narayan Prasad Bhatta has stated that the ongoing lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley should be imposed until Dashain.
In a meeting of the sub-committee under the Education and Health Committee of the Parliament on Sunday, CDO Bhatta stated that the lockdown was the best option to curb the spread of the coronavirus, as the festival season will motivate people to gather and celebrate together in large groups.
“Dashain is coming, and the movement will increase, therefore the current lockdown should be continued until then,” stated Bhatta.
Bhatta also said that cases did not increase as much due to the lockdown imposed during the festival of teej a few weeks ago.
“The situation would have been worse had it not been for the prohibitory order,” he said.
The current lockdown has been issued in Kathmandu Valley since August 20, and will end on September 9. The CDOs of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur have stated that the lockdown is the best option in trying to contain the virus.
