SURKHET: Associate Professor Dr Narayan Prasad Poudel has been appointed as the registrar of the Mid-Western University (MU). The University had solicited open application on July 6 to recruit the post of registrar.
Around 19 applicants had submitted their applications for the post. A three-member selection panel headed by former Vice-Chancellor of the Kathmandu University Prof Dr Suresh Raj Sharma selected Dr Poudel based on the standard criteria.
MU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nanda Bahadur Singh shared that Dr Poudel’s name was recommended before the MU Chancellor and Prime Minister and the PM had approved the recommended name.
“Appointing a registrar through open competition is so far the first-of-its-kind in the history of universities in Nepal”, he said, adding, “The MU has set the milestone in the recruitment of registrar through open bid.”
He claimed that the appointment of a registrar of the university based on political power sharing has been completely subverted with this recruitment process.
Likewise, the University has received solicited applications from prospective candidates to take part in the open competition to the posts of dean of the faculties of humanities and social science, management, science and technology and education.
Successful candidates will be recruited to the posts of dean, the university sources said.
