NC 14th general convention: Voting for central officials, members not started yet

KATHMANDU – Voting in the election of the central office-bearers and members has not started yet in the Nepali Congress (NC)’s 14th general convention. The general convention representatives have queued up at the voting stations at the Rashtriya Sabha Griha (City Hall) and Bhrikutimandap since the morning for this purpose.

Although the voting was scheduled to begin at 8 am today, it has not begun yet due to technical reason, the party’s Central Election Committee said. It is said the voting has been halted due to the delay in printing the ballot papers.

The party Central Election Committee said 487 candidates are vying for 134 posts. As per the Nepali Congress statute, election is held for 134 posts of the 167-member central working committee while the party president nominates the remaining 33 members, including the treasurer.

Arrangements have been made for ‘full body’ sanitization for the voters in view of the possible risk of COVID-19. Security has been beefed up at the voting station premises.

Fool proof security arrangements have been made as the dignitaries including Prime Minister and party president, the Home Minister and Ministers will also be participating in the voting.

The candidates for the party president, vice president, general secretary, joint general secretary and central member posts are seen campaigning accompanied by cultural tableaus and musical bands asking for votes at the Bhrikutimandap precincts.
