Supreme Court schedules hearing for writ petition demanding indictment against former PM Nepal on Baluwatar land scam

KATHMANDU – The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on a writ petition filed against former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal for his alleged involvement in the Baluwatar land grab scam.

Former Prime Minister Nepal is also accused of helping transfer of ownership of government land at Lalitaniwas in Baluwatar to individuals.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the hearing for this case in a joint bench of judges Anananda Mohan Bhattarai and Hari Phuyal.

Earlier last week, Senior Advocate Bal Krishna Neupane had filed a writ petition demanding that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority(CIAA) indict former Prime Minister Nepal as well as another former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai on the Baluwatar land scam.

The petitioner had made CIAA the main defendant in his writ petition.

The writ petition was filed demanding the court’s intervention to indict former Prime Ministers after CIAA filed a case against 175 people for their alleged involvement in the scam. The Court has already sought written clarification from the CIAA within 15 days.
