The Ministry of Education and Technology today decided to shut all schools and educational institutions for four days to protect children from getting exposed to the rising air pollution. Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha took a minister-level decision to shut schools as a measure to protect children from the hazardous level of air pollution, according to the minister’s Press Coordinator Ishwor Raj Dhakal. Air quality in the Kathmandu Valley along with other major cities across the country have deteriorated sharply in recent days. Rising air pollution has caused a thick layer of smogs blanketing the Valley. The government has already urged people not to leave home and compulsorily use facemasks and maintain further alertness in case of leaving home to stay away from effects of air pollution.
