Speaking at a program organized at Madhesh Bhawan on Friday to mark Constitution Day, Chief Minister Singh said that no one can force him to resign through pressure or conspiracy. “I am steadfast in my position to protect federalism and the constitution. I will not resign just because some colleagues want me to. I am ready to face the House. I will step down only if I fail to secure a vote of confidence from Parliament,” he said. He recalled that on September 9 (Bhadra 24) during the Genji youth movement, he had announced his resignation on social media out of concern that assets created by federalism might be damaged because of him. But now, he stated, he is firmly staying in office. Highlighting that the physical damage caused during the two-day protest was far greater than that during the decade-long Maoist insurgency, Chief Minister Singh stressed that the Madhesi people must now unite to protect federalism achieved through their sacrifices.
