Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – As many as 826 people remain missing after a flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning according to the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The missing include 44 Nepali Army personnel, 28 Nepal Police personnel, 13 Armed Police Force personnel, 161 people from Rasuwa, one from Nuwakot and 579 tourists, according to records updated by 8:45 am Thursday.
Of the missing tourists 466 are listed as foreign nationals in the NEOC notice.
Rescue teams have so far saved 104 people stranded by the flood. Among them 43 were rescued from Rasuwa, 58 from Nuwakot and three from Dhading.
The disaster has also claimed at least 165 lives with bodies recovered from several districts. They include 27 from Dhading, 12 from Nuwakot, two from Rasuwa, 20 from Gorkha, 26 from Nawalparasi East, nine from Tanahun, 64 from Chitwan and five from Nawalparasi West.
Meanwhile, 73 people injured in the disaster have been rescued and are receiving medical treatment.
A total of 15 helicopters have been deployed for search and rescue operations including six from the Nepali Army and nine from the Armed Police Force.
Authorities continue to search for those missing and rescue people stranded in flood-affected areas.
