Kathmandu [Nepal], August 30 – A technical team including personnel from the Nepali Army, has been mobilised at the Trishuli-3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project to carry out search and rescue operations following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems.
According to the Secretariat of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Nepali Army team has started rescue efforts with support from technical workers and site engineers.
The project chief and the chief of the consulting company have also reached the site to coordinate the operation. A significant number of workers are believed to have been trapped inside a tunnel at the project following the floods.
The ministry said the search and rescue team is operating on high alert as it faces difficult conditions at the site.
Adverse weather and challenging terrain have made the operation particularly difficult, officials said.
The Trishuli-3 ‘B’ project is among the infrastructure facilities affected by the floods that swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems, causing widespread damage and casualties across several districts of Nepal.
Authorities are continuing efforts to locate and rescue those believed to be trapped at the hydropower project.
