Authorities issue high alert along three rivers

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – Authorities have urged residents living along the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli and Narayani rivers to remain on high alert following a major flood in the Bhotekoshi River.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has advised families living along the riverbanks to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure.

The warning covers riverbank communities in Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Chitwan and Tanahun districts.

The authority has also urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow safety instructions from local authorities as the flood situation develops.

People requiring rescue assistance have been asked to contact the authorities through the toll-free emergency numbers 100, 1234 and 1114.

The alert comes after a sudden and massive flood hit the Bhotekoshi River, raising concerns about possible downstream impacts along the Trishuli and Narayani river systems.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and have called on residents to prioritize safety.
