Kathmandu [Nepal], August 29 – At least 616 bodies have been recovered so far following the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa, according to Nepal Police.
The bodies were recovered from eight districts including 13 in Rasuwa, 45 in Dhading, 48 in Gorkha, 158 in Nawalparasi East, 41 in Nuwakot, 233 in Chitwan, 31 in Tanahun and 47 in Nawalparasi West.
The Nepal Army has rescued 2,465 people including 163 foreign nationals from flood-affected areas as of 8 am Saturday.
Of the foreigners rescued 113 were Indian nationals, 26 Chinese, 15 South Korean, four German, two American, two Italian and one Omani citizen. The army evacuated foreign nationals by air from Timure, Syafrubesi, Dhunche and Mailung.
A total of 2,265 people were rescued by air including 191 from tunnels while 200 were evacuated by land.
Emergency treatment centres in Trishuli and Dhunche have provided medical care to 1,706 people. More than 6,700 army personnel and 4,811 police officers have been deployed for search, rescue and relief operations.
Twenty-seven police personnel remain missing and are being searched for.
Meanwhile, 140 injured people have either been discharged from or are receiving treatment at hospitals across Kathmandu Valley.
