Kathmandu [Nepal], August 30 – China has sent 50 tonnes of emergency relief supplies to support victims of the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Nepal.
Two Y-20 cargo aircraft of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force delivered the relief supplies to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Sunday morning.
According to the Chinese Embassy the aircraft arrived at around 7 am carrying 13,200 pieces of emergency relief material. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming handed over the supplies to Nepal’s Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun at the airport.
The relief package includes tents, blankets, sleeping bags, hard tack and first-aid kits among other essential items.
China has also sent four tunnel rescue experts along with rescue equipment to assist Nepal in the aftermath of the floods.
The experts will support efforts to rescue people believed to be trapped inside tunnels and provide technical assistance during the ongoing emergency response, according to the embassy.
The Bhotekoshi floods have caused widespread destruction in several parts of Nepal, leaving hundreds dead, while rescue teams continue to search for missing people and assist those affected by the disaster.
