Energy Minister inspects flood-hit hydropower projects


Kathmandu [Nepal], August 31 – Nepal’s Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha arrived in Trishuli, Nuwakot on Monday to inspect flood-affected hydropower projects and review ongoing rescue operations.

Shrestha has begun discussions with Home Minister Sudhan Gurung at the military training centre in Trishuli. Gurung has been coordinating rescue efforts from the centre.

Senior Nepali Army officials deployed for tunnel rescue operations at the hydropower projects briefed Shrestha on the latest progress in the search and rescue efforts.

Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Asim Shah also accompanied Shrestha to Nuwakot.

Following the briefing, Shrestha is scheduled to travel by helicopter to Rasuwa to inspect rescue sites at hydropower projects affected by the floods.

He is also expected to meet families of victims during his visit and discuss the ongoing rescue efforts and the situation of those affected by the disaster
