Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – India is preparing to send relief materials to Nepal as soon as possible following the devastating flash floods in Rasuwa, Indian government sources said.
The development comes as the Nepal government has stepped up rescue, relief and recovery efforts after the massive flooding in the Rasuwagadhi border area the Bhotekoshi River and downstream settlements.
An emergency Cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to provide free medical treatment to those injured while arrangements have been made to evacuate injured and stranded people to safer locations using Nepali Army and private helicopters.
The government has also ordered authorities to restore blocked roads, drinking water, electricity and telecommunications as soon as possible. Financial assistance will be provided to families of those killed while resources will be mobilized for the reconstruction of damaged public infrastructure.
Local governments in disaster-affected areas will be declared disaster crisis zones for three months under the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.
Meanwhile, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has reached the affected area with officials to lead rescue and disaster management efforts.
Authorities in Tibet have also mobilized multiple mechanisms to search for missing people and continue rescue operations.
