Indian Army Chief meets Prime Minister Shah

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 18 – Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday as part of his official visit to Kathmandu.

Seth met Shah who also serves as Nepal’s Defence Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava also attended the meeting.

Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday for a four-day visit at the formal invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel.

During his visit, President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred on Seth the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army at a special ceremony on Monday.

Nepal and India have maintained a longstanding tradition since 1950 of conferring honorary general ranks on each other’s army chiefs.

Seth also held bilateral talks with General Sigdel at Nepal Army Headquarters on Monday. The two army chiefs discussed matters related to bilateral military cooperation and relations between the two neighbouring countries.

Seth’s meeting with Prime Minister Shah is part of his engagements with Nepal’s senior political and military leadership during his visit.

He is scheduled to conclude his official visit and return to India after completing his engagements in Nepal.
