Kathmandu [Nepal], August 24 – Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal is set to travel to Serbia on August 31 to attend a high-level commemorative meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the first Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit.
Khanal will lead a three-member Nepali delegation to the meeting which will be held in Serbia’s capital Belgrade, on August 31 and September 1. According to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs he is scheduled to return to Nepal on September 3.
The high-level commemorative meeting is being organized in Belgrade to mark 65 years since the first NAM summit was held in the same city in 1961.
The gathering is expected to bring together world leaders, government delegations and representatives of countries participating in the Non-Aligned Movement.
Nepal has long adopted the principle of non-alignment as a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The country’s Constitution also recognizes its commitment to the principles of non-alignment as a key aspect of its foreign policy.
Nepal has maintained active participation in the movement since the Bandung Conference and has regularly taken part at a high level in NAM summits, ministerial meetings and other official gatherings.
The country has also continued to play a constructive role in the movement over the years.
Khanal’s participation in the Belgrade meeting is expected to reaffirm Nepal’s longstanding commitment to the principles of non-alignment and its engagement with the wider NAM community.
