Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah said Thursday that all state mechanisms have been mobilized for the immediate rescue and relief of people affected by the devastating floods.
In a social media post, Shah said the government was conducting rescue and relief operations on an urgent basis and would tackle the disaster through coordination with Nepalis at home and abroad and the international community.
He said rescue flights began at 6:30 am Thursday, with additional helicopters kept on standby.
The Nepali Army rescued 95 Nepali nationals and 21 Indian nationals from Timure as well as seven Nepalis from a tunnel in Haku, Shah said.
Relief materials including generators, portable mobile towers, medical equipment, tents, and iron and stone-cutting machines, are being transported to affected areas. Temporary arrangements will also be made to restore mobile connectivity and charging facilities.
A temporary camp has been established in Nuwakot with food and water arrangements in place.
Shah said drone survey data collection was nearing completion and would support more effective rescue and relief operations.
He said priority during helicopter evacuations would be given to the sick, elderly, women and children urging affected people to remain patient as rescue efforts continue.
