Pakistan to host South Asian games in April

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 23 – The 14th South Asian games will be held in Pakistan from April 3 to 11 this year following the approval of the competition schedule by the South Asian Olympic Council (SAOC).

The schedule was finalized during an SAOC meeting held in Islamabad, according to officials.

A total of 28 sports will be included in the regional multi-sport event. The games will bring together athletes from seven South Asian countries – host Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The South Asian Games are held every four years but the latest edition took place in Nepal in 2019.

Pakistan was selected to host the Games after the 2019 edition. However, the event has not been held as planned largely because of political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The decision to hold the 14th edition marks a renewed effort to resume the regional sporting event after years of delays.

The games are regarded as one of South Asia’s major multi-sport competitions providing athletes from participating countries with an opportunity to compete across a wide range of disciplines.

With the dates now finalized participating countries are expected to begin preparations for their teams and athletes ahead of the Games in April.
