Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss the crisis caused by severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.
The meeting is scheduled to take place shortly at the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.
The floods entered from the Tibet side and have increased risks in riverside areas prompting the prime minister to convene the emergency meeting.
Earlier Wednesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council held a meeting where representatives of the Nepali Army briefed officials on the damage caused by the flooding.
The Cabinet meeting is expected to make key decisions on mobilizing security agencies and government mechanisms to strengthen rescue, relief and damage-control efforts in the affected areas.
The government is assessing the situation as floodwaters continue to pose risks to downstream communities and infrastructure.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable riverside areas to remain alert and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.
