Kathmandu [Nepal], August 31 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Monday held separate meetings with the chiefs of the country’s security agencies to review search, rescue, relief and management efforts following the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods in Rasuwa.
Shah discussed ways to improve coordination among the security agencies and make rescue and relief operations more effective in Rasuwa, Ramechhap and other disaster-hit areas, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
The prime minister first met Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel and received a briefing on search and rescue operations, relief distribution and disaster management efforts carried out so far in the flood-affected areas.
He then met Inspector General of the Armed Police Force Nepal, Narayandatta Paudel and received an update on the post-flood situation and ongoing rescue and relief operations the secretariat said.
Shah is also scheduled to meet Inspector General of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki later on Monday for a briefing on rescue and disaster management efforts.
The meetings come as authorities continue search and rescue operations in areas affected by the Bhotekoshi River floods with security agencies playing a key role in evacuation, relief distribution and recovery efforts.
