Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane has proposed forming an all-party committee to coordinate relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts following natural disasters in the country.
Lamichhane made the proposal during an all-party meeting underway at the RSP parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar. He said a common mechanism involving all political parties could make disaster response more effective.
“Let us form an all-party, parliamentary or multi-stakeholder committee from relief and rescue through rehabilitation,” Lamichhane said arguing that such a body would make it easier for the government to take necessary decisions.
He also called on political parties to support disaster response through a unified mechanism with government relief and rescue funds serving as the central channel for assistance.
Lamichhane said government funds should be treated as a single-window system during disasters urging all political parties to contribute through the mechanism rather than operating separately.
His proposal comes as Nepal focuses on responding to the impact of natural disaster and strengthening coordination among political parties and state agencies involved in relief and recovery efforts.
The RSP chair said political parties should stand together during disasters and work collectively to support affected communities and assist the government in managing relief, rescue and rehabilitation operations.
