Kathmandu [Nepal], August 31 – Rescuers have recovered three bodies from hydropower project tunnels in areas hit by the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood the Nepali Army said.
Two bodies were recovered from the tunnel of the Chilime Hydropower Project while another body was found inside the tunnel of the upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower project.
A Nepali Army-led team of tunnel rescue experts has been conducting search and rescue operations at affected hydropower project sites for the past three days.
The rescue team which also includes foreign experts has entered about 100 metres into the Chilime hydropower tunnel where it found the interior covered in mud.
Similarly, rescuers have advanced about 300 metres into the upper Trishuli-1 tunnel as part of the search operation.
According to the Nepali Army’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information, search and rescue operations remain ongoing at all affected hydropower projects including Langtang, Trishuli-3A and Trishuli-3B.
The operations are being carried out to locate workers and others who may have been trapped inside the tunnels following the flash floods.
