Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – Kathmandu Traffic Police has halted vehicles heading toward four districts after a massive flood entered the country from Tibet and caused a sharp rise in water levels in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.
The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said vehicles traveling toward Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan as well as those passing through the districts have been stopped in Kathmandu as a precautionary measure.
Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson and superintendent of police at the office said the movement of vehicles was suspended to ensure public safety following the flood in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued an alert for people living in downstream areas warning that the flood has increased risks along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river corridors.
The department has urged residents of Rasuwa and Nuwakot to take precautions and remain vigilant as floodwaters move downstream.
Binod Parajuli, chief of the Flood Forecasting Division said people in downstream areas of Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan should remain particularly alert as the flood could reach as far as Muglin.
Authorities have urged residents to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel toward vulnerable areas while the flood situation is being assessed.
