Kathmandu [Nepal], August 26 – The water level in the Trishuli river crossed the danger mark on Wednesday following a massive flood in the Bhotekoshi river, authorities said.
The Flood Forecasting Division recorded the Trishuli river’s water level above the danger threshold at around 10:45 am at the hydrometric station in Furke, Malekhu.
The division said the water level was still rising and urged residents living in flood-prone areas along the river to remain on high alert and move to safer locations.
Meanwhile floodwaters from Rasuwa have crossed the Galchhi area of Dhading district. According to Chief District Officer Laxmi Pandey Gautam no major loss of life has been reported in Dhading so far.
However, the flood swept away a suspension bridge in Galchhi while authorities are moving residents of vulnerable settlements along the riverbanks to safer areas.
Residents of the Malekhu and Galchhi areas have been urged to exercise particular caution as riverside settlements remain at greater risk.
Authorities have also held vehicles traveling along the Prithvi highway at various safe locations in view of the flood threat.
