US offers condolences, aid after Nepal floods

Kathmandu [Nepal], August 27 – The United States has expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in devastating floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa District offering support to communities affected by the disaster.

The US Department of State said it is closely monitoring the situation and will deploy a Disaster Response Advisor to the region to assist with response efforts.

The United States will also provide $5,00,000, approximately 76 million Nepali rupees through a global grant to Catholic Relief Services. The assistance will support flood-affected communities with emergency shelter and relief supplies, along with water, sanitation and hygiene services.

The US Embassy in Kathmandu is working with local authorities to locate and assist US citizens in areas affected by the floods.

The embassy urged US citizens in Nepal who require urgent assistance to contact it at [email protected]. It also encouraged Americans in affected areas to monitor local news, follow instructions from local authorities and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for security and emergency updates.

US citizens seeking information about family members in Nepal can call 1-888-407-4747 from the United States or Canada or 1-202-501-4444 from elsewhere.
