Kathmandu [Nepal], Sept 15 – As many as 607 foreign nationals from 34 countries remain missing in Rasuwa following the August 26 Bhotekoshi flood, according to data from the Department of Tourism dated September 14.
The data shows that 795 people are still missing in total in the flood-hit district, including 607 foreign nationals and 188 Nepali nationals.
Foreign nationals from several countries have been reported missing, with Indian nationals accounting for the largest group at 189, followed by those from the United States at 65, Malaysia at 55, Ukraine at 54, China at 37, Australia at 33, Latvia at 33, the United Kingdom at 32 and Canada at 30.
The figures show 329 women, 269 men and nine people of unspecified gender among the 607 foreign nationals reported missing.
The Department of Tourism data also records 310 people rescued including 258 men and 52 women. Another 13 people have since made contact after initially being reported missing.
Search, rescue and relief operations continue in Rasuwa, one of the districts severely affected by floods.
The data comes as rescue teams continue efforts to reach areas cut off by the disaster and search for those still unaccounted for.
