Kathmandu [Nepal], September 17 – Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle left Kathmandu for New Delhi on Thursday for a three-day visit at the invitation of the Indian government marking his first foreign trip since taking office.
The Ministry of Finance said the visit will focus on cooperation between the two countries on various economic, political and diplomatic issues including post-disaster reconstruction.
Wagle is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday.
On Friday he will attend a high-level diplomatic dialogue organized by former Indian foreign secretary Shyam Saran as the chief guest. He will also meet Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on the same day.
Wagle will further participate in a gathering hosted by Javed Ashraf, president of the Trade Promotion Organization of India on Friday.
On Saturday, he will deliver a keynote address at a conference with prominent Indian industrialists organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry.
He is also scheduled to attend an academic discussion on development economics organized by the Delhi School of Economics as the chief guest.
Wagle is accompanied by Finance Ministry Joint Secretary Amrit Lamsal, Foreign Ministry Joint Secretary Gehendra Raj Bhandari, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi Dr. Surendra Thapa, Economic Minister Taranath Adhikari and his private deputy secretary Kanchan Basnet.
