Kathmandu [Nepal], September 1 – The death toll from the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Nepal has reached 987 with nearly 4,000 people still unaccounted for, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
As of 9 am Tuesday, authorities had recovered 987 bodies during ongoing search and rescue operations across several districts affected by the floods.
NDRRMA said 27 bodies were recovered in Rasuwa, 95 in Nuwakot, 55 in Dhading, 65 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 216 in Nawalparasi East, 170 in Nawalparasi West and 321 in Chitwan.
A total of 3,916 people remain unaccounted for following the disaster while 279 people have been injured, the authority said.
Authorities have so far rescued 11,814 people from flood-affected areas.
Search operations for those still missing are continuing alongside rescue and relief efforts in areas hit by the floods.
The Bhotekoshi floods caused widespread destruction across several districts with communities, infrastructure and hydropower facilities severely affected. Rescue teams continue to search river channels and other areas where people may have been swept away by the floodwaters.
