France delivers emergency aid to Nepal flood victims

Kathmandu [Nepal], Sept 15 – France has handed over emergency relief supplies to Nepal to support communities affected by the flash floods.

The Embassy of France in Nepal handed the consignment of in-kind humanitarian aid to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on Tuesday for immediate relief and recovery efforts.

The supplies include floor mats, hygiene kits, kitchen kits, water purification tablets, solar lamps and medicine kits for urgent and general medical needs.

The assistance was provided in response to requests from the Government of Nepal through the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism, according to the French Embassy.

French Ambassador-designate Françoise Puig-Inza handed over the relief materials to Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Mahabir Pun.

“In the wake of this tragic disaster, France stands in solidarity with the people and Government of Nepal. This emergency assistance as well as the future ones reflect our commitment and that of the European Union to supporting local authorities in their immediate relief efforts and helping the most vulnerable communities recover and rebuild,” Puig-Inza said.

The French Government will also contribute to international assistance for people affected by the floods through UN agencies, the International Federation of the Red Cross and French NGOs Action Contre la Faim and Triangle Génération Humanitaire, which are already working in the affected areas.

The French Embassy also expressed condolences to the families of those affected by the disaster and to the Government of Nepal.
