Government expands domestic jobs to reduce migration

Kathmandu [Nepal], September 18 – The government has stepped up efforts to make foreign employment an option rather than a compulsion by expanding opportunities for jobs within the country.

The initiative is part of the government’s plan to implement the Employment Promotion Decade (2083-2092 BS), announced under its policy and programme for the current fiscal year 2026-27.

According to a press note issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment will organise a seven-day Skills and Employment Fair in Itahari, Koshi Province, from September 30 to October 6.

The ministry has also begun preparations to expand the campaign nationwide by issuing the Skills and Employment Fair Operation Guidelines, 2083 Assistant Spokesperson Jagadish Parajuli said.

An instruction and coordination committee has been formed under the labour minister while the fair will be managed in coordination with provincial and local governments and district administrations.

The event will bring together private companies, industries, enterprises, training providers, development partners and the Social Security Fund. It will seek to match jobseekers with opportunities based on their qualifications, skills and interests.

The fair will also provide skills testing, training, career counselling and entrepreneurship services with the government seeking to better align available workers with domestic labour demand.
