Gurung shared photographs of the rescue operation on social media on Friday saying the successful rescue had kept “a ray of hope” alive despite the prolonged operation. He thanked the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and the Central Command Centre teams involved in the rescue operation despite the difficult challenges they faced. Gurung also praised lawmakers Sagar Dhakal and Shriram Neupane for their continued efforts and said rescue teams remained deployed across the tunnels in an ongoing search operation. The two rescued workers have been identified as 30-year-old Sanjay Sah and 45-year-old Kabir Maharjan. They were trapped inside the tunnel while carrying out technical work at the hydropower project when the Bhotekoshi River flood struck on August 26. Their rescue has raised hopes that others believed to be trapped inside the tunnel could still be found alive. Rescue teams continue to search the affected tunnels.
