Kathmandu [Nepal], September 6 – Nepal’s national flag has been reinstalled at Rasuwagadhi in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-2 of Rasuwa, after the devastating Bhotekoshi river flood swept away much of the area’s infrastructure.
A joint team of the Armed Police Force, Nepal and the Nepali Army placed the national flag at the Nepal-China international border crossing, restoring a visible symbol of Nepal’s national identity in the border area.
The floods had washed away all structures on the Nepali side of the Rasuwagadhi border, leaving no visible marker indicating Nepal’s presence in the area. The security forces decided to reinstall the flag in response to the situation.
The border area has suffered extensive physical damage with security structures also affected by the flood. The destruction has created additional challenges for border security and the management of movement in the area.
Reaching the flood-hit location was difficult because of the damaged terrain. A team from the Border Outpost (BOP) in Timure travelled about three kilometres along a hazardous cliffside route to reach the site.
Meanwhile, a Nepali army team reached the area by helicopter. Personnel from the two security agencies then jointly installed the national flag on the Nepali side of the international border.
The reinstallation comes as security agencies continue to operate in difficult terrain following the flood which caused widespread destruction along the Bhotekoshi river and severely affected infrastructure in the border region.
