Kathmandu [Nepal], September 11 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon held a telephone conversation on Friday discussing Nepal’s ongoing response to the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Shah briefed Luxon on the search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts underway following the disaster. He also informed him about ongoing efforts to locate foreign nationals reported missing in the floods.
Shah said the search for missing foreign nationals including five New Zealand citizens had been given high priority.
He thanked the New Zealand government for providing humanitarian assistance worth NZ$2 million following the disaster.
Shah also said Nepal was highly vulnerable to climate-induced disasters and sought New Zealand’s support in mobilising financial assistance for loss and damage through international forums.
During the conversation, Luxon expressed condolences and solidarity on behalf of the New Zealand government and people over the devastating floods in Nepal.
