Kathmandu [Nepal], September 12 – Nepal Police has launched a special operation from Timure in Rasuwa to Triveni in Nawalparasi to strengthen the search for people missing in the Bhotekoshi floods and improve rescue efforts.
The operation prioritises canine searches, holding-centre management, community-police coordination, crime control and investigation, relief distribution and rehabilitation, DNA profiling and traffic management.
The Nepal Police Disaster Rescue and Coordination Information Management Centre at police headquarters has issued necessary instructions to police units in the affected districts.
Police have been directed to prioritise the possibility that people swept away or missing along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers may still be alive.
Authorities are also collecting bodies and body parts completing required legal procedures and safely managing remains. Police have been instructed to return valuables and important documents found in affected areas to their owners.
Police spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abinarayan Kafle said teams had been deployed along riverbanks and debris sites to search for missing people.
Police are using drones and trained dogs in difficult terrain where rescuers cannot reach. The operation covers Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan and eastern and western Nawalparasi.
Police are also assisting with road clearance and safe crossings by tuilin where roads remain inaccessible.
