Kathmandu [Nepal], September 4 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese held a telephone conversation on Friday as Nepal continues to deal with the aftermath of the devastating Bhotekoshi River flood.
During the call, Shah stressed the importance of communicating with his Australian counterpart while Nepal is facing a difficult situation according to Deepa Dahal, press and research expert to the prime minister.
Shah thanked the Australian government and its citizens for their solidarity following the loss of lives, property and infrastructure caused by the massive flood in Rasuwa on August 26.
He also expressed appreciation for Australia’s support for Nepal’s search, rescue and relief operations. Shah particularly thanked Australia for deploying a team of drone operators, including specialists and providing essential relief supplies and financial assistance.
Shah said search efforts for Australian nationals reported missing in the floods had been intensified. He also reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to coordinating with Australia on search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The prime minister highlighted the longstanding and close relations between Nepal and Australia.
Albanese, meanwhile expressed concern over the difficulties Nepal is facing following the disaster.
