PM Shah to raise Nepal’s climate concern at UNGA

Kathmandu [Nepal], September 6 – Prime Minister Balendra Shah is set to travel to the United States to lead Nepal’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he is expected to highlight the country’s climate-related challenges following the devastating flood.

Information and Communication minister Dr Bikram Timilsina confirmed that preparations are under way to formulate Nepal’s position for the General Assembly. The visit will be Shah’s first high-level foreign trip.

The Prime Minister’s office and ministries concerned are preparing his address with particular focus on climate change, mountain conservation and the losses caused by the August 26 disaster in Rasuwa and other affected districts.

Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal will also accompany him. The government is also preparing for a factual assessment of the disaster’s human and material losses.

The General Assembly’s general debate will be held from September 22 to 26 with the 81st session opening on September 8.
